 2015 Award Descriptions and Scoring Approach

 BEST Award

Awarded to the team that best embodies the concept of Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology. Winning the BEST Award is considered the highest achievement any team in the competition can accomplish. First, second, and third place finishes will be awarded.

Game Award

Awarded to the teams whose machines finish first, second, and third in the robot competition. The fourth place finish is awarded the Robotics Finalist award.

  • Scored via Game Scoring Software provided by BRI

Founders Award for Creative Design

Awarded to the team that makes best use of the engineering process in consideration of offensive and defensive capabilities in machine design; awarded in recognition of BEST founders Steve Marum and Ted Mahler.

  • Scored based on Project Engineering Notebook Score in the Offensive and Defensive Evaluation category and evaluation by Game Day Floor Boss, Hub Director and Head Referee based on their observations of all robots during the seeding round.

 Most Robust Machine

Awarded to the team whose robot demonstrates excellent reliability and minimum maintenance during the robot competition.

  • Scored via RM BEST score sheet used during the seeding round.

 Simulink Design Award

New award will be announced prior to Kickoff 2015. More details to follow after BRI’s announcement.

 Sportsmanship Award

Awarded to the team displaying the best attributes of sportsmanship and enthusiasm during the competition.

  • Scored via ballots submitted by the student teams.

 Craftsmanship Award

Awarded to the team whose robot exhibits the best workmanship, appearance, fit and finish.

  • Scored via RM BEST score sheet

 Best Rookie Team

Awarded to the Rookie Team with combined best scoring on the Project Engineering Notebook and the robot competition

Best Project Engineering Notebook

Recognition to the team with the highest notebook score that is a non-BEST Award Winner.
